Original 365 Cats Page-A-Day Calendar 2003

Cute Cats
If you want a page-a-day calendar that has cute pictures of cats taken by ordinary people, then get this calendar.

Her kitty, kitty!
What can be said--this calendar rules! I love the pix, the quotes from cat-lovers of yorn and the tips on cat care. Looking forward to next year!

C'mon, admit it; adorable cat photos are irresistable!
Most people I know wouldn't be caught dead even picking up a cat calendar in a bookstore. But whenever I've had one of these calendars on my desk, people can't help ogling it. The photos are that good. And knowing that they were all taken by ordinary cat owners (okay, ordinary cat owners with a knack for photography) makes it even more fun. Some of these photos have gotten me to laugh out loud. And if you own a cat, I guarantee that you will find a least one cat that looks EXACTLY like your own little furball. Fun!

Peaceful Kingdom: Random Acts of Kindness by Animals

Treasure chest of a book!
I can't believe this book is out of print. Reading it is like opening up a treasure chest and finding one gem after another. Each animal story touched me and opened my eyes and my heart to the world of animals. The stories are short and easy to read, and I found myself having a hard time stopping to take a break sometimes, I kept wanting to hear more stories. A great book to read outloud to your children too, my son was also awed by the stories. I was amazed at how smart and how compassionate animals really are. There are some interesting animal facts included too as side notes. I highly recommend this book!

Incredible
The first time I read this book I thought it was one of the most wonderful books I ever read. I thought the same thing the second time I read it. I loved every story. And the best part is it doesn't just give you stories about animals and what they've done to people to change their lives, or save them. But it also gives you notes on how to return the kindness. And even stories on how people helped animals. Some of the stuff in this book is almost to hard to belive, but if you think animals are wonderous creatures that deserve the love and respect that all living things want, then you will belive everything in this book. I did. After you read the stories in this book, you'll have a different out look on all creaturs, even ants. All the stories in this book are just wonderful and amazing. My 5th grade teacher read two of the stories in this book to my whole class, after that I looked for the book. And obviously found it. Anybody who loves and cherishes their animals will love this book. Or if you just love animals and want a good read, this book would be a perfect choice.

Really good
This book is a must-have if you know an animal lover or if you are one yourself. It tells many wonderful stories on animals acting in brave ways to show kindness to people and to other animals. It's very inspirational and it makes you respect animals a lot more.

Poem a Day
Published in Paperback by Steerforth Press (October, 1903)
Author: Laurie Sheck

A fine collection
I have been very pleased with this anthology, which is absolutely for people who love good poetry in a variety of forms and styles. Great selections by Yeats, Hopkins and Blake, and many poems that you may - like me - have loved once and lost, plus some that are less familiar but great finds. Happily no Rod McKuen or Susan Polis Schulz and also, happily, no T.S. Eliot. In other words, nothing mediocre, but also nothing effete and academic. McCosker is obviously very widely read, very open-minded, and has a love for the musical, the meaningful and the memorable. The notes on the poets are very good reading. Let's hope it will inspire some good poetry writing in the next generation!

This book is a treasure!
If you like to read, you will delight in the book. If you enjoy words, you will revel in this book. "A Poem A Day" should be the next book in your library!

It does not matter if you have enjoyed poetry before today, because this is a splendid collection of poems especially selected to touch and tickle you. Poems of love and nature and joy and mundane; you will find yourself in these words.

The editors, Karen McCosker & Nicholas Albery, have done a wonderful job of selecting interesting and intriguing poems. The footnotes alone make the book worth the price because they only serve to draw you into the poets life, or experiences, or work.

I do not own or write poetry. I like words and reading. I love this book.

Read 'A Poem A Day.' You will regret not having this book yesterday.

A JOY TO READ! SOMETHING FOR EVERY WORD LOVER!
I simply LOVE this book and pick it up every day to read a poem---that's how good it is. It's turned me on to many new poets and renewed my acquaintances with the old favorites. I was happy to see this gem on page 278 by Raymond Carver:

"And did you get what--- you wanted from this life, even so?--- I did.--- And what did you want?--- To call myself beloved, to feel myself--- beloved on the earth."

The power of the words shine through: the power of words to heal, strengthen, uplift, comfort, hurt, wound, enrage, succor and rejuvenate! This book is a celebration and a joy to read.

I enjoyed reading the words to Leonard Cohen's, "Suzanne Takes You Down", a favorite song from my past.

The poem, "from Jubilate Agno" written by Christopher Smart in the 1700's while in an insane asylum (about his cat!) was awesome and a must read for EVERY cat lover.

"The Falcon to the Falconer" by Jonathan Steffen blew me away. Here's a few lines:

"Unleash me from your hand--- And I will lance the light for you--- I'll cut a swordblade on the wind--- And pennant it with flight for you--- To signal I am yours--- If you will free me to be true to you. . ."

I could go on and on! I'm so happy that I found this book and recommend it highly!

Reflections of Courage on D-Day & the Days that Followed

A MUST READ PERSONAL ACCOUNT OF WWII
Having read many books on the personal experiences of WWII veterans, I can honestly say that this is, hands down, the best first person account I have read to date! Anyone with even the slightest interest in WWII should pick it up and read it ASAP! Mr. Parker was an unbelievable man with an unbelievable story-thanks to his nieces, we can all read it now and benefit from it.

an another view on ranger's D-Day and days after
Thanks to M.Taggatz , I have could discover an other sight about Ranger's D-Day and especially Charles "Ace" Parker : a special man with the nobly convictions ! This book have a "heart" and probably , it capture the spirit of Ranger's D-Day ! I think and I wish that the memory oh this men musn't be forgotten ... To read absolutely !

They Were Heroes
As I read "Reflections of Courage on D-Day" I could hear my father talking through Ace Parker. My dad, Harold Gene Mann, private in the 5th Ranger Battalion, said many of the same things about his experiences and said them in the same way. I am throughly enjoying hearing him speak again.

Thanks from the heart. Howard G. Mann

Snappy Little Farmyard: Spend a Day Down on Snappy Farm

Outstanding Pop-Up Book
I bought this for my little niece, and it is much beloved. It is an amazingly well-designed pop-up book, with vivid, humorous images and pop-up features that work well and stand up to repeated (and repeated and repeated) readings. Highly recommended.

Good for young childres
I am buying the 2nd copy of this book for my 2 year old grandson. It is one of his favorite books but due to his age and the fact he looks at this book a lot, it has some torn pop-ups. The pictures and pop-ups are large and colorful and are a good learning tool for a young child because there is not so much on a page that it overwhelms them. I highly recommend this book.

Favorite in "Snappy" series
We have most of the SNAPPY books but this is one of our favorites. My 2 year old son absolutely loves all of these books. I would highly recommend the whole set.

Teach Yourself C Programming in 21 Days

Right out of the horse's mouth.
I love this book. Everything is made so clear and easy to understand even though the book moves at a fast pace and is very specific and thorough. If somebody told me they wanted to start learning C I'ld tell them to get a new revision of this book. The book features helpful does and don'ts that seem to read your mind and present to you the answers to your questions. 5/5 hands down. I'm going to add "Teach Yourself C++ in 21 days" to my shelf because I have strong faith in SAMS. Also don't be intimidated by C and buy a book that includes "beginner" in the title because they won't be advanced enough for any inteligent human. Buy thick books and read those.

Great book for all
This book gives you the very best learners guide and reference book I've ever seen.

Fantastic, simplistic way of teaching.
This book has captured the perfect method to teach someone the C programming language. Many beginner books are very fluffy, others much to advanced. This book explains everything you need to know in a very simple, and extremely thorough manner. An excellect purchase.

The Teddy Bears Picnic
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (Juv) (October, 1991)
Authors: Jimmy Kennedy and Alexandra Day
Average review score:

Beautiful book to share with your child
If you and your child (or even if you don't have a child) love the song and story of the Teddy Bear's picnic, then you will adore this book.

The text is pretty straight forward - as well all expect it to be. But the illustrations are just delightful - full colour on every page, teddies everywhere you look and getting into all manner of interesting things. This is what is so charming about this book - the sheer delight of finding a bear and seeing what it is doing - is it eating cake? Climbing a tree? Falling asleep? Avoiding the children in disguise?

It may be a difficult book to find, but it is just lovely, and well worth the effort.

Teddy Bear's Picnic
Good book with good illustrations to accompany familiar song.

A beautiful book!
"If you go down in the woods today You're sure of a big surprise If you go down in the woods today You'd better go in disguise For every bear that ever there was Will gather there for certain because Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic."

This is such a fun book to read to my kids! The rhyming verse has a nice rythem to it, but its the pictures we enjoy the most. They make you feel like you are peeking through the trees at this wonderful picnic! This book is a treasure!

Reach for the Stars (Amazing Days of Abby Hayes)
Published in Paperback by Apple (December, 2000)
Author: Anne Mazer
Average review score:

A Lukewarm Read
It's cute. I enjoyed the ending, it was quite surprising! It luckily saved the overly used plot. But the writing is VERY... amateurish. Example?
'"Can someone make me hot chocolate?" It was Alex, their younger brother. He had a faint scar over his left eyebrow, where he had run into a slide. His hair was tousled and messy. His sweatshirt was backwards. At least his socks matched. That was better than usual.'
It gives you a good example of what Alex is like but when I read this to myself/aloud, it sounded repetitive (he, he ,he, his, his, his) and their was little sentence variety.
A good read for those ten and under, but older children will be bothered by the monotonous structure/notice certain spots where stronger writing could be used- like I did.

Reach For The Best Book Series Ever!
I am the biggest fan of "Abby Hayes" she and Anne Mazer make a great team! Anne Mazer is by far one of the best authors! The reason why I liked this story is because it attracted me to my normal teen/pre-teen life. Abby is a clutz, a fun loved girl, and a big color purple fan. (Like me) basically this book gives the normal life of a girl a little push!!!

Enjoy!!!

Anne Mazer
Anne Mazer is a very gifted writer and her stories of a young girl, Abby, and the troubles she and her friends encounter are just as magnificent. This series is certainly for a younger crowd but I still enjoy it. Six- eight year olds are sure to love it!

Rudder's Rangers : The True Story of the 2nd Ranger Battalion D-Day Combat Action

Author: Ronald L. Lane
Average review score:

Memories Come Alive
As a 5th Battalion Ranger reading Ron Lane's true story, memories of the first days of the Normandy invasion come alive as if they happened yesterday.

As the 2nd and 5th Ranger Bns. interacted on many missions of WWII, this vividly written account of the assault on the French beaches - and the awesome task of gaining a foothold from which to advance into Europe - brings that time alive to all Rangers.

Lt. Col. Ronald Lane captures the emotions and pride of all of us, as he sees that time through the eyes of those he interviewed for his book. As a later Airborne Ranger in Viet Nam, he better understands and narrates the stories of the WWII Rangers and relates them so realistically that they are absorbing and meaningful to soldiers and civilians alike. In this book, you will put yourself into the body of each Ranger making history at that time. USER-LOCATION: REVIEW: As a 5th Battalion Ranger reading Ron Lane's true story, memories of the first days of the Normandy invasion come alive as if they happened yesterday.

Rudder's Rangers
I found this to be an excellent and authoritative book with detailed accounts of the 2nd Rangers on D-Day. I know a number of Rangers veterans who recommended this book to me as a well written and accurate account. This is by far one of the best D-Day books I have in my growing collection. If you are a D-Day buff, then I recommend it to you without hesitation. Your D-Day collection will be incomplete without it!

Riveting!
From the very start of this book, you're pulled in. You're on the English Channel with the young, brave, terrified Rangers as they make their way towards Omaha Beach. You'll hear the whine of the Landing craft engines. You'll watch as the men struggle to keep their landing craft afloat, or as they sink helplessly to the bottom with all their heavy gear, drowned before their mission really started. You'll recoil from the geysers of water shooting into the air from German artillery. You'll duck - knowing it's futile, that once you hear it, it's already past you - as bullet after bullet pings off your craft. It's an incredible ride, and an incredible story. "Saving Private Ryan" was fictionalized, but the first thirty minutes of that movie realistically portrayed the horrors of that day. Read this book to find out the rest of the story, from the men who were there. One of the main persons in this story is Leonard "Bud" Lomell, who has a chapter in the "Heroes" section of Tom Brokaw's best seller, "The Greatest Generation." If you're hungry to find out more about him and the rest of his Ranger buddies - all heroes in my eyes - read this book!
